Tap repairs

Leaking Tap Repair & Tap Fitting in Greater Manchester

A dripping tap is the job people put off longest and it's one of the quickest to sort. It also stains basins, wastes hot water you've paid to heat, and on a meter it shows up on the bill.

We repair and replace kitchen and bathroom taps, mixers, stop taps and isolation valves, and sort out the low-pressure and airlock problems that often come with them.

Chrome pull-out kitchen mixer tap fitted by Semico Plumbers with renewed flexible connectors

Problems we're called out to

  • Dripping tap

Worn ceramic cartridges or washers replaced so the tap shuts off cleanly again.

  • Stiff or seized handle

Limescaled cartridges and spindles freed off or renewed — Greater Manchester water is kind here, age isn't.

  • Leak under the sink

Weeping flexi tails, back nuts and isolation valves that soak a cupboard base unnoticed.

  • Poor water pressure

Partly closed valves, blocked aerators and airlocks tracked down and corrected.

  • Seized stop tap

A stop tap that won't turn is a real problem in an emergency. Replaced with one that works.

  • New tap fitting

Mono mixers, pull-out sprays and traditional pillar taps fitted with new connections.

Repair or replace?

Good-quality taps are usually worth repairing — a cartridge and a set of seals costs a fraction of a new mixer. Budget taps with worn bodies are often past it, and we'll tell you honestly which camp yours falls into instead of selling you something you don't need.

  • Ceramic cartridges, washers and O-rings replaced
  • Flexible tails and back nuts renewed rather than reused
  • Isolation valves fitted so future work is a five-minute job
  • Aerators cleaned and flow checked on both hot and cold
  • Everything wiped down and leak-checked before we go

Outside taps and garden supplies

We fit outside taps with the correct double check valve and an internal isolation point, so the supply can be drained down before winter. Done properly it's a tidy job through the wall with no drilling surprises; done badly it's a burst pipe in the first hard frost.

Pipework and valve work

Taps sit at the end of pipework, and a lot of tap complaints are really pipework complaints — undersized runs, part-closed valves, or a gate valve that has silted up. We check the supply side as well as the fitting so the problem actually goes away.

Common questions

Do you repair taps or only replace them?
Both. We carry common cartridges and seals, so a lot of dripping taps are repaired the same visit without buying a new tap at all.
Can you fit taps I've bought myself?
Yes, that's very common. Just keep the box and fittings — some designer taps need specific tails or a particular flow rate to work well.
Why has my water pressure dropped at one tap only?
Usually a blocked aerator, a part-closed isolation valve or debris in the cartridge. It's normally a quick fix once we've isolated which it is.
Can you fit an outside tap?
Yes, including the required check valve and an internal isolator so it can be drained before winter.
