Radiator Repairs and Heating Plumbing in Greater Manchester
A radiator that's cold at the top, cold at the bottom or dripping onto the carpet is a plumbing job, and it's one of the most common calls we get once the weather turns.
We handle the wet side of heating systems: radiators, valves, pipework, bleeding, balancing and leaks. Anything requiring work on a gas appliance itself is handed to a Gas Safe registered engineer — we won't touch what we're not certified for.

Problems we're called out to
Cold at the top
Air trapped in the radiator. Bled, then checked for why air is getting in at all.
Cold at the bottom
Sludge and debris settled in the bottom of the radiator, restricting flow.
Leaking valve
Weeping TRVs, lockshields and unions replaced and the joint remade properly.
One room never warms up
A system that needs balancing so flow isn't all going to the nearest radiators.
Radiator replacement
Old panels swapped for new, including moving pipework where a size changes.
Losing pressure
A sealed system dropping pressure usually points to a leak somewhere on the pipework.
What we do on heating work
- Radiators bled and systems balanced so every room gets its share
- Thermostatic and lockshield valves replaced
- Leaking radiator joints, tails and unions remade
- Radiators removed for decorating and refitted
- Radiator swaps, relocations and additional radiators on existing pipework
- Towel rails fitted in bathrooms
Where we draw the line
We're straight about scope. Radiator and pipework plumbing, valves, leaks and balancing are our work. Work on the boiler or any gas-carrying component legally requires a Gas Safe registered engineer, and if that's what your system needs we'll tell you rather than have a go.
That honesty is worth more to you than a quick job that has to be redone.
Older systems in Greater Manchester homes
A lot of local housing stock has heating pipework that's been altered over decades — extensions added, microbore mixed with 15mm, radiators swapped without rebalancing. That's usually why one room is freezing while another is uncomfortable.
We look at the system as a whole before changing parts, so you're not buying a new radiator to solve a flow problem.

Common questions
- Can you help with radiator problems?
- Yes — bleeding, balancing, valve replacement, leaks and radiator swaps are all standard work for us.
- Do you work on boilers?
- No. Anything involving the boiler or gas components needs a Gas Safe registered engineer. We handle the radiators, valves and pipework side and will tell you clearly when a job falls outside that.
- Why is my radiator cold at the bottom but hot at the top?
- That's usually sludge build-up restricting flow through the bottom of the panel, rather than air. It's a different fix from bleeding, and we'll advise whether cleaning or replacement makes more sense.
- Can you remove a radiator so I can decorate?
- Yes, and refit it afterwards. We drain and cap it properly so nothing marks the wall or floor while it's off.
